Wow. No words

It would be nice to be allowed to mourn. But CBS takes even that away with crappy coverage and this headline on Sportsline. Inexcusable.

"Kansas puts an end to Davidson's feel-good nonsense with a convincing 59-57 victory."

Are you kidding me?

The kid in that picture, Thomas Sander, played the entire tournament with a broken thumb. Is that nonsense to CBS?

Furthermore, the only thing convincing about that victory is that I am convinced Jason should have brought the ball up and fed Curry off the screen, rather than having Curry bring it up.

But, in any event, thank you to the Davidson Wildcats for a storybook season. I was convinced Jimmy Chitwood was going to happen all over again when we got the ball with 17 seconds left and a chance to win.

Man. This hurts. But what a ride.

Determination and Destiny

Now that I have watched these, I'm ready.

Today is YOUR time:

Whatever comes out of these gates, we've got a better chance of survival if we work together:

One man armies do pretty dang well with timely assistance.

There may come a day . . . but it is not this day:

And finally, if you have to ask who Jimmy Chitwood is today, you ain't been paying attention:

Now do you believe?

Every game, a new defender is going to shut him down. Every game, he plays his game and leaves the court a winner. Four NCAA tournament games - Four 30+ point masterpieces.

And Bob McKillop just roundly outcoached "the best coach in America."

This is so much fun.

Now serving Curried Badger

Butt whuppin'.

NEXT?

Parallelism makes for great dramatic structure

"Lastly, let's be realistic about tonight.

Can a team from the little Southern Conference go all the way to Michigan and beat one of the best teams in the Big Ten?"

-Tom Sorenson, Charlotte Observer.

Let's relive that a bit, shall we?

Everything is coming together nicely, I'd say.

Two more games, and Mike Maloy shall be avenged.

The Davidson Show - Starring Stephen Curry

This is this week's episode of the Davidson student closed-circuit television show. Hosted by Stephen Curry and Bryant Barr. Produced by Austin Bell.

(WALT, by the way, is the student radio station.)

No Badgers

I love these commercials. I love them even more now that we are playing Wisconsin, which, I am again compelled to point out, has almost 3 times as many current students as Davidson has living alumni.

Davidson College: Great Hoops. Great School. No Badgers.

3.26.2008

Holy Well Off Alumni, Batman

People often ask Davidson alums why we are so passionate and dedicated to such a small school. After all, there is no 100,000 seat on campus stadium, no billion dollar research facility. Our entire body of living alumni is smaller than the student population of most of the other schools in the Sweet Sixteen. What could be so special?

I could go on for hours, but it may just suffice to show you this email from Davidson President Tom Ross, which just went out to students today:

To all Davidson Students: Given the extraordinary nature of the success of the men's basketball team, Davidson's Trustees have graciously offered to pay the expenses of those students who are able to attend the game in Detroit on Friday night. We realize that for some students, academic and other obligations will preclude taking advantage of this offer. Please note that classes are NOT cancelled on Friday.

We all know that, at Davidson, academics come first. This offer is not intended to encourage students to miss classes. Students, please consider going to the game ONLY if this is, academically, the right decision for you. For those of you who cannot go to Detroit, the game will be shown on the large screen in the Alvarez College Union and there will be plenty of Davidson Wildcat spirit here on campus.

For those of you who are able to attend without detriment to your academics, please follow the instructions below:

If you want to attend the games in Detroit and do not yet have a ticket, you must email ********* at *****@davidson.edu by 4:00 pm today.

The bus will leave at approximately 6 a.m. on Friday morning. It is approximately an 11 hour ride to Detroit. We will make hotel reservations for you ( 2 students per room). Tickets are for Sessions 1 and 2. If Davidson wins on Friday night, they will play again on Sunday afternoon (exact time not yet known). Win or lose, the bus will leave on Sunday afternoon after the Session 2 game ends. You will most likely arrive back in Davidson on Monday morning between 4 am and 6 am.

If you have already booked a package with the bus that leaves campus on Friday morning (bus, tickets, hotel), then your credit card will not be charged. If you have purchased a ticket and are handling transportation and lodging on your own, then you will be reimbursed for the face value of the ticket only. All of this will be handled next week.

We are so grateful that our Trustees, on their own initiative, have so generously offered this gift to Davidson students. For many reasons this week, including our Trustees' support and commitment to our students, it is a great day to be a Wildcat.

-- Tom Ross

Davidson is a family, from the youngest freshman to the oldest alum. From the moment you walk onto the campus, the thought that this is a unique place that can build you into more than you could have imagined before is drilled into you. And you come to believe it, and as a scrawny kid with a killer instinct has shown the world, it comes true. It is entirely fitting that every student who wants to go should go, on our dime.

Kudos to the Trustees and to President Ross.

What it was like

This CBS video gives a pretty good indication of how nuts it was when Davidson won on Sunday. Look closely and you can see Lefty Driesell dancing to "Sweet Caroline."

This is great

Thanks to whomever put this on YouTube.

As the RedSox fan said - Now I can die in peace.

LOL WILDCATS!

HT to Lex for the idea.

SWEET SIXTEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Divine intervention. Or something. Somehow, we allowed a much bigger team to shoot over 63% and we still won. how? We took care of the ball. The vaunted Big East bad boys turned the ball over against Southern Conference defensive pressure 20 times. We turned it over FOUR.

FOUR TURNOVERS.

Against the "best defensive team in the country," the best guard tandem in the country produced these numbers:

Jason Richards: 40 minutes, 20 pts, 5 assists and ONE TURNOVER!!!!!!!!!

Stephen "Effin" Curry: 36 minutes, 30 pts, 5 assists, 3 steals, 3rbs, and NO TURNOVERS.

Take that, Big East. Take that, ACC. Take that, Big Twelve.

Today I went to church with a Davidson Tshirt on under my suit. Then I changed into the same clothes I wore to the game on Friday. Blue jeans. Cowboy boots. Red tshirt. Red Mister Incredible shirt on over red tshirt. No hat. Tickets from Friday's game in my right pocket.

My tickets for today were slightly lower than the summit of Mount Mitchell. But I moved down for the first half and switched seats with a Carolina fan. Nearly threw up. Moved back up to the nosebleeds for the second half.

Thirteen minutes left. Down by 17. Curry for three. I turn to the kid I sold my other two tickets to, and I say "Curry time."

And BOOOOOOOM! Georgetown folds. Davidson roars back. john Thompson puts a 7'2" All American at the top of the key. And Stephen Curry goes nuts.

Wow.

The Davidson Wildcats are going to the Sweet Sixteen.

This is better than the Stanley Cup.

Mrs. Clinton, you got some 'splainin' to do...

Hillary Clinton, last Monday, at George Washington University, speaking of her trip to Bosnia:

I certainly do remember that trip to Bosnia, and as Togo [West, former Secretary of the Army] said, there was a saying around the White House that if a place was too small, too poor, or too dangerous, the president couldn't go, so send the First Lady. That’s where we went.

I remember landing under sniper fire. There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base.

Hillary Clinton - on that trip to Bosnia. With her 12 year old daughter and a cute little 8 year old Bosnian girl.

Unless the 8 year old was packing heat, I don't see any snipers.

I hope by now y'all see why you should have voted for Edwards. This thing would be over. And we'd have a nominee I could be sure would whip John McCain like a rented mule.

Best play you might not have seen

The play starts about 15 seconds in. It happened right in front of me, and I still can't believe what I saw.

Watch Curry split the defenders in the back court as they try to foul. Only thing I can compare this move to is something Walter Payton might have done if he played basketball.

One Fine Jesuit institution down...

... one to go.

His name is Stephen Curry. Get used to it.

The Fed Gives Away Money

Dear Chairman Bernanke:

A few years ago, I lost several hundred dollars at a craps table while on a cruise.

Also, this year, my 401k has taken a beating because I stupidly left my retirement funds invested in a mutual fund that stupidly invested in certain banks.

Please send my free money to my home address. Ask the Vice President, he knows where I live.

Thanks bunches.

DrFrankLives.

P.S. I also bought a lottery ticket last week and didn't win. Can you return my money? K Thx.

This song goes out to the Wildcats

23 - 0 in the conference for the year. Lowest cumulative score by three opponents in conference tournament history. Three straight conference championships. No losses in 2008. One conference loss since November 2006.

Associated Press #23.

EPIC domination.

There is Davidson.

Then there is everyone else.

Read em and weep.

An unparalleled season.

Davidson is quite possibly the first team in NCAA history to have a 20 win regular season based solely on its conference record.

20 - 0 and only a couple of them were even close.

11/26 @ ASU W 71-60
12/13 Citadel W 95-74
1/03 Ga. Southern W 92-67
1/05 Western Carolina W 86-73

2/16 Furman W 86-51
2/19 UNCG W 75-66
2/27 ASU W 68-55
3/01 @ Ga. Southern W 89-69

Keep in mind, that Georgia Southern team we beat twice, by 25 and 20, was a 20 win team that lost to Florida, at Florida, by two on a BS call that gave Florida foul shots to end the game. UNCG, who we came back from 20 down to beat and then shellacked when they came to our house, beat Georgia Tech at Georgia Tech. App State beat Arkansas. We also whipped Winthrop at Winthrop, where they have only lost twice in forever - that team has wins at Miami (Fl) and at Georgia Tech.

This team hasn't lost since mid-December, and that loss was on the home court of NC State, by 1. Davidson hasn't lost at Belk Arena since the App State loss last season. We are 22-6, with 20 straight wins.

And the losses? Not a bad loss in the bunch, unless you call a loss at Western Michigan, co-leaders of the MAC, as bad. I don't, even though we should have won that game. And it was in November.

Ask Coach K how he would feel about having to play this team again.

He'd rather not.

Time to take care of business at the SoCon tourney in Charleston this weekend, and then look out, Sweet Sixteen, here come the Cats.
